I've got it!

Time that is. I finally had a few spare minutes to do whatsoever I please. So, I decided that I would update my blog with a few crafts from the last 365 days of my life.
In the kitchen, I have made 5 pies, 8 batches of cookies, and 14 batches of my famous lemon bars, which won a blue ribbon at the county fair.

I would have to say that my favorite thing had to be the cake mom and I made out of diapers, though.

My crafting adventures proved to be much more fruitful. My scrapbook, two pillows, a painting, and a pencil sketch of mine also won blue ribbons in the county fair. I have recently become obsessed with flowers, so, I put my crafting hands to work and made some rosettes.

I like to wear them in my hair when I pull it back or as a pin on a sweater.

But I couldn't stop there, could I? With a broken necklace, some random buttons, and paint in hand, I started working on the single most economical piece of jewelry I own.

Now, if you are squinting really close to the screen thinking do those flowers have words on them? Do not try to adjust the resolution, because the flowers are made of newspaper. Yes, a necklace made out of newspaper, it's genius! Next, I am going to make them into a headband on some satin ribbon.
Lastly, I have a collection of vintage hats that live in decorative hatboxes around my room. I got a new addition a while ago and realized that I didn't have any more room in my boxes, so what did I do, one might ask. I decorated a styrofoam head, of course!

Yes, I am aware that the picture is sideways, I'm just experiencing a few technical difficulties. But anywho, that's about it for this past year, I will upload pics when I finish the dress I am working on at the moment.
Until then,

Can you believe...

Almost an entire year has passed, and a crazy one at that! I can hardly fathom that I haven't had the time to blog, but between school, church, and all of my extracurricular activities, there has hardly been time to post about my escapades in the kitchen and the craft room. I promise to post about my year in a few days when I can get all of my pictures uploaded. But spring is in the air here in northern Alabama and that means time for gardening, baking delectable goodies, and cotton sundresses. Post more later!

Like mother like daughter

My mother and I love to cook and bake together. We love cute aprons, but these days they are so very pricey!I decided to use my sewing skills to fashion coordinating aprons for us to wear while piddling in the kitchen. I looked for a pattern online, but I didn't see one I really liked, so I just made my own. Not too bad for an old linen dress and some scrap fabric, if I do say so myself. The best part? Seeing my mom's surprise and how incredibly well they fit. I simply cannot wait to whip up some delectables in these!

Knit Wit

I have recently been learning desperately how to knit... after a long and lovely train ride, and a difficult time learning how to cast off, I have finished my first ever scarf. I discovered a few things about knitting:
1. try your hardest not to miss a stitch because it will leave a hole.
2. Do not stretch the stitches out on your needle unless you started it that way or else your scarf will become wider and wider, as did mine.
3. Do it all at once; you will not pick your work back up if you stop before you are finished...trust me on this last one!
If you follow these tips, you will surely become a knit wit like me. Now that the scarf is done, I want to try making socks... hopefully I will finish by the time it gets cold enough to wear them.
'Till then,

First Time Blogger

Hello everyone! I am so excited to start blogging for the first time ever...yes, that's right, I am a first time blogger!! This past week was spring break, so I visited my home away from home in Chalmette, Louisiana. My cousin Moria turned me on to blogging during my stay. Come to think of it, my week was full of firsts: eyebrow wax, salon pedicure, bananas foster, concert, and many others. Needless to say, I absolutely cannot wait to return during the summer!!
Until then- meg

Hello....

Today was Art in April.
We had a fabulous time listening to music and seeing all the local art displayed.
